The WorldFIP Association was created on 6 March 1987 under the original name of CLUB FIP (Flux Information Process).

The process leading up to its creation began in 1982 when the French Ministry of Industry set up an "Industrial Local Area Networks" working group of manufacturers who make and use such equipment.

TELEMECANIQUE, MERLIN GERIN, CGEE ALSTHOM and CSEE (CETIA) contributed to the project.

WorldFIP’s highly original solution was to make openness a permanent option by embedding a microweb in intelligent products in the automation architecture.

This non-proprietary FIPWEB solution conforms to current trends in technology, respects the basic WorldFIP principles and makes installed products entirely transparent to the user.
